Acquaintances Matter
I’ve heard a quote once that said this, “An acquaintance merely enjoys your company, a fair-weather companion flatters when all is well, a true friend has your best interests at heart and the pluck to tell you what you need to hear.” But everything starts at the baseline. A simple introduction; an energy released and an energy received. I believe even those we brief past matter too.
Who do you introduce yourself to? What vibe of people do you resonate with? What draws you in to someone’s personality that promotes an introduction?
Back in October, I attended a craft show in Quakertown. The actual show itself was a flop, sales were down, foot traffic was slim, and the attitude in the air was hanging off of diminishing hope. But unalike to buzzing shows where a moment to breathe is unavailable, this show opened up for possibilities.
For the first time, I had the opportunity to leave my tent and introduce myself to the other vendors. What I learned was that these were friendly people, willing to serve, and open to multiple forms of creativity. The individuals that make up a given show, have amazing personalities behind each table.
From one of these interactions, I connected with a lady named Jenni from Amid the Moss. Ecstatic about her craft, we discussed herbal blends and scientific connections our brains make from the herbs administered. We talked about this craft show and other promising vendors — she poured out so much knowledge to me! Since then, we have been chatting through social (The Eclectic Hedgehog and Amid the Moss).
I tell you this, believe in the energies of people. I found this lady intriguing. She was dressed in neutral, bohemian garb. A tent filled with herbs and creative mixed-media book displays. She was a bit edgy and her husband, with her, looked a like an earthy viking. Their vibe was inexcusable. I had to get to know them. Besides, is there anything more intriguing than a business named “Amid the Moss”? My whimsical, earth-bound, fantasy feelings were hyping themselves up, and our connection flourished.
So, moral of the story. Introduce yourself to those you vibe with. You never know, you could learn so much. You could gain a kindred spirit. Or you could learn that you were wrong. But, as long as you keep learning, loving, and living — that is life. I’m glad I chose life that day, because now I have a new friend :)
